Baby Blankie and Dinner Out = Great Friday

what I have been working on while I’m away from here

crocheted using a 4.5mm ADDI hook and leftovers of Bernat Cottontots yarn and it’s going to our nephew’s new baby girl

This week has passed in a blur of rain, jobs, favorite television shows,
chores such as ironing, yarn, phone calls,
and dentally prescribed drugs %-P

our whole property is covered with leaves too soggy to rake or mow over with the mulching mower

Husband and I went out Friday evening to finally celebrate our anniversary properly.  He said someone at his office was describing the Loaded Mashed Potatoes at a new place across town called SKEWERS and he knows how much I love squishy spuds, so that’s where we went.

It turns out, the owners are the same guys who own the Garden of Paradise where we have breakfast on Saturday mornings.  One fella came over and said he was glad to see us, so I mentioned the potatoes have a reputation already, and we were doing our wedding anniversary in style.

Geo had a steak dinner, done perfectly, and I had a chicken wrap, and th :cheese: se potatoes.
Yummy, with portions so big that we both brought home half of what was on the plates.

When the check was brought, our Skillet Cookie dessert had been marked Complimentary, then the server said Happy Anniversary!

Today’s big outing together was whipped cream to go on the Apple Cake made this afternoon with the last half bag of fruit brought home weeks ago from the church library.

I guess going somewhere is not the mission, it’s the companionship.

Don’t Bother Me Right Now

A few weeks ago, I updated my Profile on Facebook, so several folks jumped aboard who want to be my Friend.  I don’t really understand the whole Friend Request stuff, I see many of these folks every Sunday at church, or e-mail a couple times a week, and my weblog is right here for anybody who happens by.

This evening, while I was Logged In to Facebook, and typing in a Comment for someone else, a little box appeared in the lower right corner saying HI!  I assume it was to chat in the moment, which I don’t do well at all, neither on Facebook nor Google.
I do know how, but I don’t like to do it, so I usually seem rude and click it off, logout, and mouse on my merry way to the next blog.
Online is a world unto itself.

Tonight’s tv show is HOUSE, which got delayed due to a baseball game going overtime.  The phone rang, and dummy me answered it.  Would I be willing to take a survey?  Um, NO, HOUSE is on at long last.
Again, I might be rude, but I said “Move along to the next name on your list” hung up the receiver and scurried back to the couch to watch Hugh Laurie in scruffy beard mode.

Now it’s time for bed, and I’m hearing hissing on the back porch.  Two cats are jostling for who gets to look in the window and tell me to open the door.  I’d leave ‘em out there, except they are both too dumb to fend for themselves in the dark.

I’m just not wanting anymore communication right now.
A toothache brings on impatience.

Was today our Anniversary?

This weekend, the third weekend in October is our wedding anniversary.  I’m usually pretty good with date memory, but much of the time with this, I have to think about the actual number.  I remember that we were married the third Saturday in October because the church building was booked every other Saturday of the month, and the minister refused to do a Sunday ceremony on October 12 (the date I really wanted) which is Columbus Day and easy to remember.  Therefore, October 18 is when the papers became official.

We are at 29 years of wedded bliss.  We couldn’t decide a special way to celebrate together, plus there was a chili lunch at church and I’m on the committee to help provide it.  Much of Saturday afternoon was preparations in the church kitchen, evening at home baking brownies and corn bread, Sunday morning was more preps, serving at Noon, and running the dish machine for clean-up until 2:30pm.
It was a great time, just not with my spouse, although we did alot of talking about him 😉 across the sinks.

Meanwhile, Husband got in some time on his unicycle, watched a movie on the little dvd player while walking on the treadmill, and puttered around a bit in the garage.  He says there is a gift in the works.

The gift I want is the latest cd by Reba McEntire, so I’ll probably pick it up next time I am at Tarjay.  For him I ordered some old-fashion pants stretchers to help with the laundry.  I don’t mind ironing all the other stuff, but I refuse to iron his pants, even if they are all cotton and he loves how crisp they feel after being pressed.
There is a freshly laundered pair of pants hanging to dry, so I hope the new gizmos work out as well as they did for my grandma.

Yesterday, son Chris performed in a wedding.  He said it was outdoors, and he did not know until then that Ave Maria could be played with frozen fingers on a wooden guitar.  He looked so nice in his tailored tuxedo, alas, I was too tired to remember where my camera was.  I also told him the outfit should go to the dry-cleaner, I am not going to put any effort at all into keeping his professional attire looking spiffy.  He can use expenses for his taxes.

He thought it was neat that he was at a wedding the same weekend as the parents anniversary.

Tomorrow’s TA Sub job is 6th grade at a junior high across town.  The kids are some I’ve known since they were in 4th grade, so we get along fine.  If I recall correctly, I’ll be in P E for two class periods, cafeteria duty for one lunch period, and one Reading Group of 4.  Not too bad at all.

Nitey Night

Link for a Quick Show of Pride

Jon was a kid in high school when my young family began going to our church.
We were given tickets to see him in a play at the park, and just knew he had potential    as an actor

So his MOM sent this to me this morning.
Just like any MOM is supposed to do, she’s braggin on her boy, and with good reason.

Jon is the actor guy working blue collar factory job, which means he has much less long hair than when he was in GODSPELL, but I would know his eyes anywhere.

and here’s the e-mail which brightened my day

Diane,  Good morning!

Here is something that Jon sent and I opened this morning.
Watch it and see him x2.

TV ad: The Race

Have a good day!

So glad Monday is done

Quote from long ago:  the hurrieder I go, the behinder I get

If I didn’t know better, I would think my body is having PMS.  All day it seemed like I couldn’t finish a task (the towels are folded but not put away), spilling stuff (sugar on the stove, counter, floor), forgetting what I went down to the basement to fetch (brown gravy mix for the beef roast and potatoes).

Today was a school holiday, and there were 6 things on my To Do List.  As I sit here thinking about getting ready for bed, I look around and see that 5 of the things are still waiting.

Husband assures me that everyone has an “Off” day sometimes.  Although the things need to be done, nothing is urgent and will wait until I get around to it.

Bless his heart, he even loaded the dishwasher while I’m in front of the blue screen.

So I guess I should log off and move along.

Job in an elementary school tomorrow, but I don’t recognize the name of the regular TA, so I’m not sure what I’ll be doing.  I hope it does not involve cafeteria supervisor, which is second on my Dislike List, after Bus Lane Duty.

Here’s hoping your week began a bit easier.

Sweet Sweet Saturday

A nice e-mail from son Lucas starts the day off mighty fine.  He’s happily married, has a couple job interviews, gave me his newest phone number.  Things a mom appreciates knowing, even though he lives far away from us.

There was frost on the windshield of the car this morning, but the sun and a light breeze have ensured a lovely Autumn day.
So nice that I walked downtown to the post office to mail a couple small packages,
then had to cross the street to buy a yummy carrot muffin,
be-bop in at the library for an educational dvd to watch sometime during this long weekend,
and then wander through a yard sale on the next street, buying of all things a cute little baby doll to sit on the shelf above my monitor.
It might displace the squirrel or Fiona.

Great day so far.

Singing in the Lane

After Yarn Group this afternoon, I went to Sam’s for a roasted chicken.  I’m not sure what all the seasonings are, or even if it’s the flames doing the cooking, but the $4.97 is well worth our supper centerpiece.

I was pushing my cart up and down aisles, there’s always something new there to ogle, and the servers who give out little food samples have been the same faces for a long time, so we chat a bit.

Then I was humming as I got to the checkout.
the gal scanned my membership card while saying it was a pretty song I was humming

Being with youngsters means I am often singing to help with lessons, but what I had was from the WICKED soundtrack, so without further ado I sang out the words

Because I knew you, I’ve been changed for the better, because I knew you, I have been changed for good

which I first mentioned on my blog here

She went on scanning my groceries with a little smile, but the customer and clerk in the next lane looked over.

That was all the words I sang, there was a bit of silence, then she said I should scan my debit card.

As she handed me the receipt, she got that same little smile and said “Yeah, a pretty song”.

My reputation for being a bit kooky remains intact 😉

Help from a Little Friend

The weather today was great! 68o sunny, light breeze

Got to be the TA Sub in Pre-K classes
Phys Ed outside both morning and afternoon 🙂

Snack time, only one spill of a half carton of milk, straight across the table, not on anybody, so eezy-peezy clean-up.

However, getting my Bus List students to the door, one little guy began to run outside while the bus was still moving into the lane, so I grabbed and pulled back and got a bit in his face with the lecture, so he began to cry.

I mean, the Sub has been a nice teacher all day, then a mean old lady is hollering, so he didn’t take it easily.

Well, Pre-K is the time to learn that nobody gets out of line while the bus is moving, before the arm drops, and the lights flash.  NOBODY lets not one toe over the yellow line until the bus comes to a complete stop.

Here’s a little kid working himself into a good wail, and I’m feeling bad about yelling, but he had done something dangerous and scared me, and I’m not quite sure what to do now.

An after-school mother was waiting nearby, who had seen the whole situation and was just about to walk over to console the kid, when another boy from the class, who had been where he was supposed to be by the wall, stepped over to stand right in front of his friend and said
“Yeah, NO Running (pause for effect) and NO Crying either”

Well, Disobedient Kid pulls up his shoulders, sniffles one last time, wipes his cheeks with the sleeve of his jacket, and goes to his place by the wall.
Other kid gives me a look as if to say “He’s okay, I took care of it” turns to look toward the bus.

The driver motioned for us to come forward, so I matched the Bus # on my list, called the driver’s name but it was different than the ID he showed me, saying the regular guy was off sick the rest of the week,
then I began checking off names of the students one by one up the steps to board

Last on was Little Mister Peacemaker, who announced to the driver “We had a Sub teacher today” as if all the hoopla hadn’t been noticed already.
the driver nodded and said “She’s doing her job real good…”

Doing a good job sure has me all tuckered out.

You All Sleep Well, too….

Robbery is Annoying

Some time during last night, my car was the target of entering.  I won’t say breaking, because the driver’s door lock has been malfunctioning since the last time somebody decided to pilfer items from the interior (such as the ash tray which was full of coins and the dealer says the part is $78 to replace).

Ever since then, at random times, if the door does manage to lock properly, I cannot use the key to open it again.  I have to go around to the passenger door, unlock it, then climb in and reach across to unlock the driver’s door from the inside.  It is worst during cold weather, and I am dreading any future ice storms.

So, much of the time, I just leave the driver’s door unlocked, especially in the driveway of our quiet neighborhood.
When I went out this morning to take the trash container to the curb, I noticed the light on for the trunk of my car.  The lid was ajar about 6 inches.  As I got closer, I realized the interior overhead light was also glowing brightly.

Thank Goodness.  If the battery had drained and died I would be much more p*ss*ed off than I was already.
I look through, noticing that my usual junk was not in the usual places.  Missing was the $8 flashlight in the glove box, a pair of son Chris’s sunglasses from that little console between the bucket seats, and a faded red blanket from the trunk.  Strangely enough, almost $2 in coins was still in plain sight in the holder.

When I got back in the house, I mentioned it to Husband, he asked about his car which seems fine, since it was locked properly.  Then I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast and got ready for a TA Sub job in a 4th grade classroom.

After school, I stopped by the police station and said I wanted to file a report, just in case there were other folks getting bothered by somebody who doesn’t know how to leave property alone.  Rather than just handing me a form on a clipboard and saying please fill it in like the clinic does, I had to answer questions back and forth through a little hole in a bullet-proof window around the receptionist’s desk.

Let me tell ya, a flashlight, sunglasses the kid has forgotten about, and a really old faded blanket purchased at a yard sale was not worthy of so much annoyance as me standing there.

The officer says that car burglaries seem to increase with cooler weather.

However, Husband says our neighbor’s car was also riffled through, also with piddly stuff missing.  I’m not sure if a police report was filed by them, but we will have to be alert and careful.  And I’ll have to remember to lock the trunk so that the little lever by the front seat will not be able to open it.

An idiot or two can sure spoil a good life for the rest of us.

Word Usage while Walking

My glasses have been out of alignment since Monday when accidentally I got knocked upside the head by a disabled student whom I was repositioning from wheelchair to lunch table, and two trips to the eyecare center haven’t got ‘em right yet.  Bleh.  My left ear is so sore that I cannot tell if all my recent fiddlin got the piece curved properly or not.  Bleh.  And the headache caused by eyestrain had me resting on the sofa until the phone rang.  Bleh.

So I’m wearing my first bi-focals from 2003, and by crackety, these are quite proper with fit on my nose and ear, and reading what’s on screen.  Still, I’ll have to try again with adjustment for the newest one, if only to have some lenses with fewer scratches.

As I was walking home from the job yesterday, I was thinking that Husband and I are “out of sink”.  He was home sick for a couple days, I’ve had a concentration problem due to eyewear worry, so we have been a bit snappish with each other.  As if troubles within our separate bodies cannot let us appreciate being a mate with the other.

I’m walking along deep in thought, looking around only when I need to cross a busy street.  Strolling home from work on wide sidewalks and a sunny afternoon is a luxury.

I got to thinking about writing a blog post saying that “out of sink” sounds better saying it aloud than writing the words.  Sink is the place to wash dishes, so for a couple to be “out of sink” might mean we have argued about trivial placement of used bowl and spoon.

Sink also means to go under water, but even with all the rain lately, our basement has remained dry, and the dehumidifier machine’s bucket gets emptied twice a day.

I’m walking along Main Street, thinking that “out of sink” wasn’t making sense and how could I write about it.  Then a thought bounced in that “sink” is not the correct word at all, but “sync” which is short form of synchronized which means to operate in unison.

And so a whole blog post got written inside my head while I was walking, yet when I turned the key in the lock of the front door and two cats greeted me, words disappeared.

What stayed-in seemed to be a little more entertaining than what is here, even though I have gone to the thesaurus three times for better word forms.

But here ya have it, Husband and I need to return to “being in sync” in time for our wedding anniversary later this month.
Discussion is ongoing as to how we shall celebrate.
