Sweet Saturday Morning!

It being the weekend, I did a little extra staying in bed, with two pairs of yellow eyes watching my every twitch to see if I might get up and head towards the kitchen.  They were fed an hour later than a weekday, but after setting out their bowls, I crawled back under the covers to snuggle in with my husband.

He is one tired dude, having worked two regular and three 11 hour days this week, doing computer updates.

When the shadows on the wall and the light coming through the crack in the curtains told us the sun was up, I went and had my shower while he checked for messages.  Whew.  We actually got to eat breakfast at G o P without interruptions.

There are many games going round on Facebook.
I don’t join in, mainly because I am not even good at keeping track of real life activity, but I think a game should happen where a little elf comes to my laundry room and folds the towels.  It can be difficult, depending on which closet or shelf or drawer they are stored.  There are some which get a tri-fold, some in half, and two beach towels get rolled to fit between.
Yep, make a game of getting them put away.
Otherwise, I usually have a bunch of wrinkled terrycloth in a basket, so when I pull out a corner, the whole load gets dumped onto the floor.  And I’m getting tired of that, so folding MUST Happen S.O.O.N.

There are several other items on my ‘To Do List’
meaning I better get moving.

Good Thursday Morning!

When the phone rang, I thought it would be the confirmation for the furnace guy expected this morning.  However, it was the assistant principal for an elementary school wanting me to work a TA Sub job today.

When I explained that I am not available on Thursdays, she said she did not know this, and would make a note.

I told her “it’s nice to be wanted”  🙂

then she said “Oh Yeah, we need six more like you”

Not sure my spouse would agree, tho nice to hear.

Meeting, Laundry, Pizza, Tooth

This morning was the monthly meeting of Mennonite Women, a nice group at church.  We did some crafty activities, such as a knotted comforter, putting together the quilt frame and layers of fabric to do a handsewn crib quilt, cutting rectangles of fabric for sewing bags.
I looked at all the cloth in various piles and shapes and realized how much of it came from my hobby closet awhile back.  Golly, there are times when I go a bit nuts when I see things on Clearance at craft stores!

I didn’t work on any of them after we all settled into a routine.  I began knitting a hat on the child-size peg loom, and got as far along as turning the cuff before it was time to quit.  It was my turn for Devotions, and I used our Study Guide, a picture of a cornfield from a book, and the passage of Scripture Mark 2:23-28 which is about gleaning.  The audience is friendly.

Five large loads of laundry and ironing got done this afternoon.  I gave myself a little reward by ordering a pizza delivered for supper so that I didn’t have to decide and/or prepare anything else.  The Latino fella who brought it is a parent of an elementary student and recognized me.  Small town, I guess.  I’m glad I had an 18% tip all ready to hand over.  Chris was here to check his computer stuff, help eat pizza, and to carry home his laundry.  I like that he comes by, then goes away again.  I guess that’s what offspring are supposed to grow up and do.

Tuesday is beginning the crown on my most recent tooth problem.  I have no troubles with it since the root canal a week ago, so I am hoping the permanent can be installed with just one visit to my regular dentist.

Seems weird to tell my job that I am Unavailable for 3 days this week, all for different reasons.

There’s a cat between me and screen.
Time for bed.

Hey, Lady, let’s get away from it all

Life is busy, Live is Earnest
but we have no need to turn up the furnace

because the temperature sign at the bank said 73o !!
so I ain’t complainin’, NO, not at all   😉

My planner book says many places to be and things to do,
so I’ll be not here very often in the next few days.

Mahalia says that’s fine with her.

A Little Time Free

Well, last evening there was one TA Sub job on the schedule, but I decided to wait until later to see if anything else bubbled up.  Early this morning, SubFinder said No Jobs Available so I guess this glorious autumn day will have to enjoyed in a way which does not bring in wages.

I went out into the yard to fetch the newspaper which had landed in the grass about 12 feet from the steps, swept leaves off the front porch,
taking awhile for leaning on the railing to just breathe in, breathe out, moving my neck and chin but feeling no pain jab through my jaw.  That moment is one to savor, to remember for all my days.  I realize that I have had pain in my left cheek pretty much since last year at this time.  The tooth second from the back and its broken crown is what gave me trouble all through December, to the time of misery so that I called off being in the church Nursery, yet still ended up with a root canal in July.  And now a month feeling the tooth behind it, work done on Monday.

Yesterday, the endodontist’s office gal called to check with me about any complications, but I asked if I can reduce the pain meds, they tend to make me sleepy.  If I don’t need it, then don’t take it!

I’m reading a book about a boy in Africa who built a windmill.  He is a bit younger than even my youngest son, but seems so observant and knowledgeable.  Like many of the Africans I have met in real life, he has a nice way of telling a good story, almost like I can hear the lilting accent as well.

There are many other things calling me, so staring at this blue screen seems lower on the list.

You all have a nice day.
Mine looks open and promising.

Some Days We have to Let it Pass

Karen at Chookooloonks has decided to to come clean about her way of speaking in everyday life, rather than the edited version which we get to read on her blog.

She is talking about letting loose a swear word, which reminded me of a TA Sub job I was working the other day.  I was a classroom Aide for CGI Sixth Grade, their first year of middle school.  Even though there is a first quarter gone, some of the students haven’t quite adjusted to all the rules.

We were in the Adaptive PE boys locker room, where I was waiting in the little area near the door and two boys were in cubicles changing back into regular clothes.  Neither one should have needed help with the task, but soon I heard some forceful muttering, one kid said the door was jammed, a loud thunk.

I went round the corner and asked them to calm down, maybe climb under the door to get out.  The one boy really does not like closed in space.

However, I noticed the reason the door was jammed, so I pressed on it from my side, and got it open.

Two boys came out, one breathing heavily, the other trying to explain it all away that he was trying to help.

I sent the one who was fully dressed on back to the classroom, where he proceeded to tell the teacher about how the other kid got all upset, and HE CUSSED!

Meanwhile, I managed to calm down the guy with the sensitivity issues, had to help with his shoes.
And then, the lock on his locker decided to be uncooperative.  We dinked around with it awhile, but I knew we had to get moving.  He was worried that somebody would steal his clothes, so I gathered them and the lock and carried it along to deal with later.

When we got to the room, the first boy hollers out about the cuss word.  The teacher looks to me to handle it, since I was the adult at the scene.  By then, my own issues about ‘being late’ were coming to the surface.
This outburst also got the second boy on the defensive again.

So I took a deep breath, looked right into the face of the first kid and said “Yeah, it was a tough situation, so swearing was IN CONTEXT” which he did not quite know the meaning of, but the other TA and the teacher both had to cover their lips with their fingers to stop the smiles from showing.

Then I patted him on the shoulder and asked if he would please let it go, PE and locker room were last hour, so now is time for Social Studies and snack.
The other TA hurried to the snacks box, the teacher turned on the projector for the SmartBoard, and we managed to settle back into routine.

Later at the break, I explained about the lock, which worked perfectly for the other TA.  The boy still says he wants a lock with a key, which we told him to ask his parents if they would purchase one for him.

At lunch time, the first kid was telling his tablemates that the other kid got away with cussing in the locker room.  One of those teachable moments all over again.  I told him that the school rule does mean No Cussing, but sometimes we just have to understand certain people have to be accommodated.

I mentioned another time when I was with him and he did something maybe too much, but I let him be okay with the difference.  And yeah, he did remember that.  Sometimes being the TA Sub blipping in and out one day time for different classrooms and grade levels does pay off.

Letting out some slack helps us all to get along.

Water and Toothache—A Dreary Day Hovering

The morning is cloudy, warm 64o oh dear, raining again :long:

Husband went down to check the basement and found water on the floor in the corner.  No matter what we have done in all the years we have lived in this house, hard and long rain manages to get into the basement somehow.  Every lower thing in that room is either on wheels or in plastic bins.

Since son Chris needs our big mop and bucket at his rental house for the same problem, I went out last week and bought a smaller bucket and wringer for us here.  My wrists don’t like using a mop anymore, but I can toss down some old beach towels, then squeeze them in the wringer to get the job done.

I sopped up and poured out two gallons whilst Husband was cooking oatmeal for breakfast.

Then I emptied the dehumidifier container down the laundry sink, replaced it, set the machine to Maximum Dry, then came upstairs to eat.

SubFinder schedule says “No Jobs Available” which is fine with me.  Actually, those words onscreen belay the guilt I would feel if I turned down a job, knowing I was needed at a place where I earn wages.

Sopping up water in one’s own house is working for a different reason.
Plus, my run of antibiotics is through, but there is still a sour taste in my mouth.

I have been able to cut back how often I take ibuprofen, but the toothache is still with me.

Procedure happens on Monday.

I’ll be glad when all this is over.

Her Kitchen Must Be a Wonderful Place

Because Halloween is coming,
Not Martha decided to cook a creative meatloaf

There Awhile,  Home Again

The dawn was a dreary gray this morning, but after a three day weekend, I realized that I might as well face a fine day at a TA Sub job (by request a week ago).
Husband cooked some oatmeal for us to have breakfast, then I showered and got ready.
Made it all the way to the school office, signed in, given directions to the classroom.
When I got there, two teachers looked at me like I had donkey ears or sumthin.  What? we don’t need a Sub, that was supposed to be cancelled.  One gal walked with me back to the office, where tension tightened.

I spoke up, saying I have a bit of a toothache, so if I was really not needed, then they could forget I happened by, just white-out that name on the list today, I’ll be on my way.

And so I found myself with an open day after all.

Back home, I hung up the duty clothes that had been on my body 57 minutes, put away the dishes from the counter, empty the dishwasher, checked e-mails, wrote to Husband all about it, stuffed envelopes for paying the bills, wrapped a package to send off, started a load of laundry.

Sometimes the feeling of free doesn’t even take money into consideration.

When I got back from the Post Office, there were messages on the answering machine.  Once the TA Sub job got cancelled within the system, it decided I should be working somewhere else this afternoon, and really really wants me to respond with my Sub number.
Next time it called, I just pushed the “don’t bother me” button, and will continue doing my little chores and hobby the rest of the day.

Right after I have a mug of hot chocolate and a pumpkin donut.

May such a sweet blessing come your way also 😉
