Algebra in real life…

This is my friend, Martha.

Martha tells me that she does not remember ever using Algebra
during any activities of daily life.
Once I pass my class at the community college,
I would like to be able to say the same thing.

More than a movie

Did you ever have something in your hand that just screamed Memory?  Sometimes called deja vu, the feeling of having been doing this before.  I like to think it is usually a good thing, but there are many who suffer after being in stressful situations. Oh,  that is the Dark Side, and what I was feeling meant light and carefree, and whipped up a happy time of my youth.

A roundabout story so here goes…..

Saturday stuff

This being Saturday, Husband and I went out for breakfast.  This is a weekly date, gives us a reason to get out of bed at a reasonable hour on a weekend.
We surprised the waitress by doing something different.
We decided to share a Leroy omelette with trimmings, and then each of us got a stack of pancakes.  Mighty fine eats, although we agree that the McDonald’s up the street has better pancakes.  Both places warm the syrup.
And McD’s has better coffee, no surprise there after all the legal hassles about their coffee.
Then the trip to SAM’s Club.  Where was this place when I had the hungry hordes of sons eating anything that wasn’t nailed down?  Husband says I am expensive, what with all I wanted to be putting into the cart, but I told him all that would have cost so much more at any other store.
The roast went into the crockpot the minute we got home, and the vege beef soup will be ready in about ten minutes.
While prepping for the soup, there was a feline observer.

This is Mahalia, who worries too much.

Ahh, yes, Friday

TGIF! even if I did have classes at 8am and 9am.  By 10:15 I was quite hungry, so as I was putting on my coat, I asked if anyone knew if the drive-thru up the street was still serving breakfast.  10:30, so I could jusst make it.
I walked in the door, food and coffee in hand, and the son was not moving about.

Algebra Quiz #1

First quiz of the class today, over Chapter 1. Which was actually supposed to be a review of sorts.
There were 25 problems, and I got 18 correct answers.  He did not mention the grade, he says he always uses the numbers and average points until the time when an actual letter grade is needed.
I sure hope I can keep up the pace all through the semester.

Way to my Heart

The Herrschner’s catalog came today.  This is the bestest Wish Book Ever! for someone who works with yarn.  Turning every page with care, I perused and considered and looked some more, forgetting my spoon hovering over the bowl of beef stew.
I have been known to loiter in the yarn aisle at the craft store for an hour, just looking and touching the texture of yarns.  That’s correct, a customer is allowed to touch.
Why, the other day, a clerk pushed a skein of yarn at me and exclaimed “Feel This! how Soft!”  which is much better than just reading colorful pages in a catalog.

The Herrschner’s National Afghan Contest Winners were printed.
The patterns have to be original, and my, they are beautiful.
Just yesterday, my Therapist asked me about my “empty nest” and what do I want to do with the next chapter in my life.
With only a minute’s pause, I responded “I would love to win a crochet contest.  Or at the very least, bring in the top bid at the charity auction.  No more selling a lovely afghan for a measly $20.”

And I have a good tool to get going.  Husband got a Valentine’s Day gift for me a bit early.  A BRITTANY walnut wooden crochet hook.  E-bay had an auction going with a Buy It Now! price, so he just called up PayPal.  My comfy, smoothe hook in a well-padded box landed in the bottom of the mailbox a couple days ago.
Now that is true love, folks….no candy (he does have to pay for the dental insurance and co-pay) or flowers (I am allergic to at least a dozen).  Just click on a great tool of my hobby and I am one happy woman.

I think I’ll get going on the use of that hook.  Pretty soon, CSI and William Petersen will be on TV.

Making Connections

Although I have been writing general e-mail letters for years, I am still trying to figure out how to get this site up and going while the whole Internet world is watching.  It’s on GOOGLE for crying out loud!

So, just be patient.  Not only the actual writing, but my Tech is elsewhere and I don’t want to lock up programming.

Husband has gone to Peoria to provide computer Tech support for some major shindig related to his job.  Staying overnight, which means that the cats will have to keep me company.  Lately, both have been on our bed when we wake up in the morning.

There were 4 pages of Algebra problems for homework.  Half the time, I can do the figuring easier in my head than when I try to use the new calculator.
I wanted to get everything done to allow this evening to be free for watching TV and work on the next baby blanket.

There are a few of my friends who are getting grandbabies, but I am not jealous, no not yet.

Besides, there is an open offer that I can work in the church Nursery whenever I need a “baby fix”.

Maybe sometime, but I am trying to maintain my reputation as “the Lady who lives in the kitchen”  a quote reported back to me by an amused mother.
It is so funny how little kids figure out the people and places of their environment.

Article for Comp Class—Plus

First class on Wednesday mornings is Composition 101 at 8am.  Our assignment had been to find an article from a credible source and relate it somehow to our position in life.

After reading a couple newspapers and magazines, I found a report about Head Lice and the history of co-habitation with humans.

For my own perspective, I related how one time my dad gave me a buzz-cut and wiped my head with a rag soaked in kerosene.  How much cleaning and de-lousing work had to be done when one of my sons brought the cooties home.  How a bad infestation in the church nursery caused several families to do laundry loads that numbered nearly to a hundred.

When the Instructor asked if anyone was willing to share the paper, I hesitated a bit.  No one raised a hand.  Since I am sitting front and corner, and the Instructor could see that I had article and paper prepped and ready, she asked me to read my essay.
I don’t think she knew what she was in for.  Nor did anyone else.  Head Lice?  for Composition class?  There were a few gasps, some tittering, a couple soft hand claps at the end.

Gathering her wits, she proceeded to break down the Claim, what points could be improved to strengthen the proposal.  Says I am about halfway to Draft 1 of Paper 1.  And that a few extra points would be added to my average for coming to class well-prepared.

Read on for a picture about what I did with hook and thread

Favorite TV show

Although I was supposed to be writing a short paper for Composition class, I procrastinated and watched my favorite show, JUDGING AMY on TV.
I thought the teenage daughter handled the news about her mother being pregnant in a very realistic manner.  Having been a teenager when my own mom announced that a new baby was coming, I have first hand knowledge.

I also began to crochet the next baby blanket.  The foundation row, plus three, so the pattern is established.

I did get the paper typed up, double spaced, so it looks like longer than it needs to be.
Now, off to bed.

Oatmeal Date Nut Muffins

Recently, I sent an e-mail to my Dear Ones with a picture of muffins as an attachment.  The response leaned very much towards the positive, so I have decided to post it here for all the Internet to see as well.

Recipe follows….

Typing with a cat on my lap and a husband looking over my shoulder, but this is happening!

It is late.  I cannot think of anything more right now.
So—See ya later.

test

Can we see this entry?  Here is a picture of MrsDoF:

DOF says:
I’m trying to learn Cascading Style Sheets, Expression Engine, and MrsDOF’s page-design preferences all at once.  So there may be a glitch or two. If you notice something does not work properly, please help me fix it by emailing me to tell me about it.

Thank you,
- DOF
