Half-Granny Squares Baby Blankie

At a church rummage sale, I came across a bag of JAMIE yarn. I remember this style from a dozen years ago, and loved it enough to make several baby aphgans with it back in the day. When LION Brand discontinued, I wrote a letter of protest.

So I snatched up what was there at the craft table for a couple dollars. Then I came home and searched through my boxes until I found a skein of white. Then I went to the supply room at the Activity Center and found a few odds more.

This blankie is what I came up with. It measures about a yard on each side. also a newborn hat was still on the peg loom when I snapped this picture. And there is enough yarn for a couple more hats.
It is still a very nice yarn to work with, and quite warm to use. Maybe LION Brand will re-new?

ps This picture coming in at the top is much better than my previous whine.

Ok, now you’ve got me curious – did you do something like a “Grandma’s Favorite” pattern (basically making a triangle, then sewing them together?) The diagonal pattern has me confused as to how you would crochet it! Looks very nice; don’t think I’ve ever come across that type of yarn, though.

    I don’t know what Grandma’s favorite is.
This is a half granny square, starting at the center of the long side, then adding stitches at the corners.
I’ve made so many over the years.

Almost my pattern is found at this blog with instructions
    Half Granny Square

I made 4 triangles, with the longest outside row of each being the brights, then slip-stitched them together, leaving turning chains along the outside. Then crocheted on a border.

It seemed like a good way to use odds of yarn without making a thousand little squares.

It is absolutely gorgeous–unquestionable the yarn makes a difference when added to your pattern. You do good work girl. Any Momma would love to have this blanket for their offspring!!!!

Thank You for such nice compliments. This photo is not the best… I just dropped it on the porch right before sunset.
My Needlework Group gal pals are impressed after touching it. They are also some great yarnsters.

the JAMIE yarn is so nice. Closest to it these days is Vanna’s Glamour, which is very hard on the wallet, although I did buy a skein with a coupon, and plan to make a most lovely baby hat with it.
